Bob's Obituary

Robert John Corcoran, 82, of Silver Spring, MD, passed away peacefully May 7, 2020. The youngest of four children, Bob was born Feb. 27, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA but was raised in Wilmington, DE where he graduated from Salesianum High School in 1955. Bob earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware, and his Juris Doctor from the Villanova University School of Law. He married the love of his life Jane Anne Corlis of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ in 1964 before moving to the DC suburbs where they lived happily for over 55 years.

Bob was a light and blessing to those around him. He is best known and admired for his sweet, easygoing disposition, joyful soul, playful sense of humor, gentleness, and patience. Bob enjoyed his long career as a Patent Attorney with the US Patent & Trademark Office and continued teaching at the Patent Academy after retirement. Bob volunteered with numerous community and charitable organizations, including Saint Andrew Apostle Catholic Church, Meals on Wheels, and the Strathmore Bel Pre Recreation Association and Swim Team. He also assisted Jane Anne in leading a local Ranger Rosary program, personally making and shipping over 40,000 rosaries to American service members deployed to the Middle East.

Bob was greeted this week in Heaven by his parents Francis and Celeste Corcoran and his siblings Frank Corcoran and Celeste Zaferiou. He is survived by his loving wife Jane Anne, son Kevin (Cynthie), daughter Kristi (Dean) Hullings, and six grandchildren – Tayler, Kameryn, and Raegan Corcoran and Zachary, Joshua (Haile), and Jacob Hullings. Bob’s surviving sister Nancy (Jim) McFadden still resides in Wilmington, DE.

The family will be having a private funeral Mass. A public visitation wake with social distancing limitations will be held at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church at 10 AM May 16th. A memorial service for Bob will be held at a later time.
